K9 School

Where your dog's potential is unleashed. We combine modern training techniques with fun-filled activities to create confident, balanced, and happy canines

Our K9 School - by Faye Carey (KPA CTP)

In my eyes K9 School is the perfect form of care for your dog from Monday to Friday whilst you are hard at work. Instead of being stuck at home your dog could be experiencing the best doggy day they could ever imagine!

I started our K9 School in March 2022 as it was previously advertised as a doggy daycare service when really it wasn't. It was actually very different in a great way! Because of the differences between a standard doggy daycare and the services we were providing I decided to re-brand as a K9 School.

  • What is K9 School? How is it different to standard doggy daycare?
K9 School is a day boarding service with a difference. We take a different approach to fulfilling your dog's needs whilst they are here which includes a structured day filled with; - Positive social experiences; We run small intimate groups typically up to 3 dogs per handler - Controlled adventure/farm walks; These walks allow us to practice key behaviours such as recall and polite leash walking. - Structured daily routine; This creates consistency for the dogs and consistency is key to seeing success. - Rehearsal of calm kennel time; It is so incredibly important that dogs are able to rehearse calm behaviour. It is even more important that a kennel facility remains a quiet and calm environment for the comfort of all the dogs attending. It is 100% achievable and is a priority for us. - Clicker games; Are a form of psychological and physical stimulation, which improves your dog's ability to problem solve and increases their willingness to learn and engage with the handler. - Puzzle games; Are another form of brain stimulation that allows the dog to problem-solve and build confidence. - Reinforcement of basic behaviours and good manners throughout the day through positive reinforcement. As you could imagine that every dog has its own 'Cup'. This 'Cup' is a way of measuring his or her emotional, physical and psychological needs each day. In order for us to fill this cup we must provide the dog with different outlets or activities to ensure that their cup stays full and that they feel satisfied and content.
  • What happens if we don't fill a dog's cup?
If we don't make an attempt to fill our dogs cup they will 99.9% of the time give it a good go themselves and much to your dismay they will highly likely be making the wrong decisions to do so. You may find your dog starts to display some 'naughty' behaviours such as digging, barking or chewing. So it is best to be ahead of the game, stop the rehearsal of these behaviours before they start and ensure that your pooches cup is full by holding up your end of the leash.
  • How can we fill our dog's cup?
Just like us every dog is different and each dog may require different amounts of certain activities to fill their cup for the day. Some dogs may require more brain stimulation through short intimate training sessions and larger amounts of physical exercise, this is typical of your working breeds. Another dog may be totally happy with having the bulk of his cup filled through social experiences, some light brain stimulation through puzzle games and smaller outdoor adventures. Filling your dogs cup throughout the week can be difficult if you are working so this is where we come in handy.
